Thanks to everyone -- I had a wonderful time. Because MomBear asked for it, here is my chili recipe.
Turkey Chili
2 lb ground turkey
2 16 oz cans tomatoes (I use 1 28 oz can of the crushed ones)
2 15-1/2 oz cans kidney beans, drained
1 8 oz can tomato sauce
1/2 cup chopped onion (or more)
1/4 cup dry red wine (whatever is handy)
1-2 Tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon dried parsley
3/4 teaspoon basil
3/4 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 bay leaf
Cook and drain fat from turkey. Add all other ingredients (I usually put the onions and garlic in while I'm opening cans of tomatoes and beans), bring to a boil, and simmer for about an hour. This serves 4 to 6 people, depending on how hungry they are and what else you feed them. (I made a triple batch for Tanasi Lodge, and we had some left over for the Friday night refrigerator cleanup dinner.)
